W Hotel launches industry’s first video game
Last week, W Hotels Worldwide debuted the hotel industry’s first-ever video game, “Belle the Bear,” which W describes as a Frogger-style adventure game that also offers real-life rewards at the hotel for players with top scores.
The game’s launch was connected to the opening of W Bellevue in Bellevue, Washington, a city known especially for its robust gaming community. High-scoring players have until July 15 to win prizes, like a 3-night stay in the hotel, roundtrip airfare, dinner vouchers, shopping sprees, and free tours of local attractions.
“Belle the Bear,” described as an “advergame,” is the first of this kind of marketing tool for the hotel industry, which has already seen video game-themed properties and even gaming-inspired training for employees.
Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader for W Hotels Worldwide, said in a press release, “Bellevue is a gamer’s city, so we thought it would be fun to tap into that energy but with a W twist. Creating Belle the Bear, a throwback game with an innovative edge, is just another example of how we are constantly looking for new ways to engage with future W fans on their own turf.”
The game is available to play at BelletheBear.com on desktop, tablet, or mobile devices.
