Counterperson (Barista)

As a Counterperson with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, you will be an ambassador for the exceptional service and experience of the coffee bar. Your warm, personal attention and knowledge coffee consumption makes guests of our coffee bar feel unique and valued.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Maitre D', responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Knowledge of brewing equipment, accessories, and supplies;

  • Preparation and service of a variety of coffee drinks, pastries and cookies

  • Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu; answering questions.

  • Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as expresso, caffe latte, and cappuccino.

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service

  • Recording orders using computerized system and timely providing food and beverage orders

  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and cookies for coffee bar
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs

  • Maintaining a safe, clean, tidy, organized, well stocked work area including assigned tables

  • Ensuring guest charges and cash transactions are processed accurately

  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • 1 years experience in a high volume coffee bar or restaurant setting

  • Moderate knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and service

  • Knowledge of brewing equipment, accessories, and supplies;

  • Excellent organization, communication (verbal and written, fluent in English) and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient with self-cashiering POS systems

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

     
  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift

  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs

  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting

  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps

Visa Requirements:  Non-Bermudian candidates will need to qualify for a Bermuda Department of Immigration work permit applied for by the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.
